Suterâ??s complete game gem earns him Player of the Week
honors DELAWARE, Ohio â?? Following a rough 1-8 stretch to begin the season, Hamilton righted its ship this weekend to the tune of three wins, thanks in large part to the play of Brent Suter (Harvard University). The freshman pitcher from West Chester, Ohio picked up his first win of the season against Stark County on Saturday with a nine-inning masterpiece that paved the way for his recognition as the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Leagueâ??s Pitcher of the Week. Cincinnatiâ??s Jon Edgington (Miami University) also shared honors with Suter by being named the GLSCL Player of the Week after a solid performance at the plate. In Suterâ??s 9.1 innings of work this past week, he posted a 1-0 record and a 0.96 ERA while striking out four batters. Against the Terriers on June 27, he tossed a nine-inning complete game in which he held the opposition to one run on six hits. He also recorded all four of his strikeouts in that victory. Through four appearances this summer, Suter is 1-1 with a 1.42 ERA and has held opponents to a .200 batting clip in 12.1 innings of work. This past spring with Harvard, he went 3-4 with a 5.77 ERA and sported a team-high two complete games. Edgington, meanwhile, led the league offensively with his .471 batting average through the Steamâ??s five-game winning streak. In 17 at bats, he racked up eight hits, four runs batted in and five runs scored. He also induced six walks for a .582 on base percentage. So far this season he is hitting .400 with nine RBIs and 11 runs. With the RedHawks this spring, Edgington hit .276 with 46 runs scored in 55 games The GLSCL is a charter member of the National Alliance of Summer Collegiate Baseball (www.nacsb.org), which is recognized as the premier organization in summer collegiate wood bat baseball. The GLSCL is funded in part by Major League Baseball and is only one of eight summer collegiate leagues in the country so designated. |
